A 44-year-old man who was accused of sexually assaulting his daughter’s overnight guest has been acquitted in Sør-Rogaland district court.

The court was not able to rule out that he only wanted to move the nine-year-old who shared a bed with his daughter, the newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad writes.

The incident that formed the basis for the indictment occurred in Christmas 2020. The defendant’s daughter had a friend visiting, and they slept on a sofa bed in the basement. The man went to the basement in the evening or early at night and acknowledged having been close to the daughter’s friend.

According to the defendant, there was no question of affection. He explained that due to the corona pandemic, he did not want the two girls to sleep close to each other. The court could not rule out the defendant’s explanation.

The 44-year-old was also acquitted of the claim for compensation.

“The verdict is correct. My client is happy that the court has heard and believed his explanation,” the 44-year-old’s defender, lawyer Vetle André Mitchell Jensen, told Stavanger Aftenblad.
