A taxi driver from Sør-Rogaland who suffered a neck injury in a traffic accident more than ten years ago will receive compensation now.

The taxi driver will receive more than NOK 5 million in compensation for loss of income and future loss of income. Gjensidige insurance has been ordered to pay out the compensation by the Sør-Rogaland District Court.

The verdict was handed down last week and, it is currently unclear whether any of the parties are appealing the decision, newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad writes.

Case background

The driver was on a driving assignment on August 30, 2010, when he was involved in a traffic accident. He was hit from behind by another car on E39. The speed was estimated at 70 kilometers per hour. At the hospital, a fracture was found in his neck.

In the 2014 to 2017 period, he returned to work. In 2018, he experienced health problems and was granted a disability pension by the NAV.

According to the verdict, the insurance company’s doctor said that there are many people who have neck issues and that there was no connection between the issue and the accident. However, the court chose to support the expert neurologist who said that there is a causal link between the issue and the traffic accident.
