A 33-year-old woman must appear in Sør-Rogaland District Court in April. She is accused of abuse due to lying about her daughter’s state of health.

The woman has not allegedly been directly violent towards her child. Instead, she allegedly lied about her daughter’s state of health, the newspaper Stavanger Aftenblad writes.

According to the indictment, the 33-year-old abused her daughter by telling the hospital and emergency room that the child repeatedly had epileptic seizures – which wasn’t the case.

The incorrect information led to the child undergoing a comprehensive examination and treatment at the children’s clinic at Stavanger University Hospital. The child was also put on epilepsy medication.

All this “caused the child unnecessary pain, anxiety, discomfort, and risk,” the public prosecutor wrote in the indictment.

Child insurance

The 33-year-old does not admit guilt. According to the indictment, the mother allegedly took out child insurance shortly before the abuse started. The insurance would provide her with NOK 300,000 if the child was diagnosed with epilepsy.

The woman is also accused of fraud or attempted fraud totaling NOK 816,000.
