A man in his 50s from Southern Norway has been sentenced in Agder District Court to four years and eight months in prison for abusing his son for several years.

In addition, he must pay his son, who is now of age, a redress of NOK 225,000. He has also been banned from contacting his son for the next three years, Fædrelandsvennen writes.

The abuse took place in the 2012-2017 period, according to the verdict.

The man’s defender, lawyer Hans Erik Dybfest, says his client would not appeal the verdict despite the fact that he disagreed with it.

Police attorney Tove Haugland noted she would send her recommendation regarding a possible appeal to the Agder public prosecutor’s office shortly.
