The pandemic has hit the aviation industry very hard. New figures from Statistics Norway (SSB) show that there have been 61% fewer air passengers at Norwegian airports in 2020.

According to the SSB, 22.3 million passengers were registered departing and/or arriving at Norwegian airports in 2020.

That is a decrease of 61% from the 57.9 million passengers who visited Norwegian airports in 2019.

“The number of passengers at Norwegian airports declined rapidly after the first round of travel restrictions and quarantine provisions that were introduced from mid-March last year,” senior adviser Christina Lyle at the SSB noted.

Although the level of activity increased somewhat in the third and fourth quarters of last year, the number of domestic passengers also almost halved during 2020.

The number of foreign air passengers was reduced by 78% last year compared with the previous year.
