In 2021, close to 5,800 people were registered as victims of sexual offenses. That is 570 more than the year before.

According to Statistics Norway, that is the most significant annual increase in the number of registered abuse victims in the last five-year period.

The increase is greatest for offenses such as sexual acts, sexually abusive behavior, and rape.

Among the victims of sexual offenses reported in 2021, most were in the age groups 10 to 14 and 15 to 19 years.

While the level of abuse cases is relatively stable for the age group 30 years and over, in the last five or six years, there have been far more registered victims of sexual offenses among children and young people in the age group 10-19 years.

Women make up 85% of all victims of sexual offenses in 2021, a proportion that has remained relatively stable over time.
