The doctor-certified sickness absence for nurses in hospitals increased by 17% in the third quarter of this year compared with the same period in 2019, according to Statistics Norway (SSB).

According to figures from the SSB, for all hospital employees, sickness absence increased by 13% in the same period.

Sickness absence amounted to 5.8% in the third quarter for all employees. It amounted to 6.7% for nurses, and for doctors, it amounted to 3%.

Not surprisingly, the SSB figures show that nurses in hospitals also work more during the pandemic. The total workload at the hospitals has risen after March 2020 and has remained higher than the corresponding period in previous years.
