Stavanger needs to test more people for Covid-19
Rogaland Municipality is increasing test capacity and will now test people with a fever and at least one other respiratory symptom for Coronavirus.
Infection protection consultant Runar Johannessen in Stavanger says they will increase test capacity as much as necessary.
– “The first thing we do is add WHO’s definition of suspected cases in addition to FHI’s definition. This means that people with fever and at least one other respiratory symptom can now be tested,” he says to Stavanger Aftenblad.
Initially, people with acute respiratory tract infection with fever, cough or shortness of breath would be tested if they need hospitalization, as well as a patient in a health care institution, are working in the health service, are over 65 and have an underlying, chronic illness or have been in close contact with a person who has confirmed Covid-19 infection.
Gradually, the municipality of Stavanger will test everyone with respiratory symptoms, including those without fever, the newspaper writes.
