NATO chief and former Labor Party (AP) Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg congratulated Jonas Gahr Støre on the election victory. He said he is looking forward to NATO cooperation.

“I congratulate Jonas Gahr Støre on the election (victory) and wish him luck in the work of forming a new government,” Stoltenberg said in a statement to NTB.

He also thanked outgoing Prime Minister Erna Solberg (H) for what he believes are important contributions to NATO during her eight-year term.

The Labor Party became the country’s largest party yesterday, and AP leader Jonas Gahr Støre will now enter into talks with the other red-green parties to clarify which parties will be in the new government.

“Jonas Gahr Støre has extensive experience in international politics and knows NATO well. I look forward to cooperating with him in a time marked by international unrest – it is important that we stand together in NATO and strengthen international cooperation,” Stoltenberg added.

I’ll bet. Our (U.S.) Afghanistan pullout has Norwegians (too) rightly asking why we were in there and whether Norway should continue to just blindly follow the U.S. – and/or UK?? – internationally.

So who will be Norway’s new foreign minister? If it is Arbeidspartei’s Anniken Huitfelt – or Jens – we can expect more of the same … or even worse.
