Student arrested after joke about school shooting at Osterøy

The police have released a student at Osterøy upper secondary
school who was arrested on Friday after a threat of a shooting at school.

The threat was a picture shared on Snapchat where a person posed with a weapon and a text that police perceived as a threat of a school shooting. The police found put who had sent the picture and what school they attended said Western police district in a press release on Saturday.

The student acknowledged in questioning that the picture had been sent to some of his friends and that it was intended as a joke. The police say that the investigation has so far not revealed anything other than that it was a thoughtless communication and was never intended as a concrete threat.

The case is still under investigation.

The accused was released from arrest in Bergen on Saturday.

The school was informed about the case and will follow up with the students involved on Monday.

‘’The police are serious about the case. We do not tolerate such actions, and all such threats are investigated’’ wrote operations manager, Per Algrøy of the Western police district.
