Students in Viken to get free pads and tampons as part of pilot project
Selected schools in Viken will offer free pads and tampons to students as part of a pilot project. The county municipality has set aside NOK 200,000 for the project.
“We are first and foremost happy that money is set aside for this at all. This will be enough to start the pilot scheme, which we believe is the start of providing free sanitary products to all students throughout Viken, in time,” the SV’s group leader Balder Alvær Olafsen told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).
The red-green county council parties reached an agreement on the scheme. A vote on the scheme is expected in December.
It has not been calculated what the scheme would actually cost, Olafsen noted.
