Suldal Municipality wants to give families with less than NOK 600,000 in gross income and single people who earn less than NOK 400,000 the opportunity to receive NOK 10,000 in electricity support.

The Municipality has cashed in millions on sky-high electricity prices. Through the North Sea Link, the Municipality takes in NOK 23 million in property tax each year moving forward, and in addition, the Municipality earns significant sums in other electricity-related revenues.

“To sit and watch as we sell electricity at a spot price for good money, at the same time as our inhabitants have high electricity prices, would leave a bad feeling,” Mayor Gerd Helen Bø (SP) told the newspaper Nettavisen.

The Municipality states that around 200 households have applied for electricity support. A total of 3,774 people live in Suldal, which has a power production of almost 7,000 gigawatt-hours.
