Suspicion stronger against suspected arsonist in Egersund

The police believe the suspicion is strengthened against a suspected arsonist after a woman was found dead in an apartment in Egersund on Monday. The prison meeting will be held on Thursday.

The investigation is still underway after a woman was found dead in an apartment in Egersund in connection with a fire on Monday night. The husband denies culpability, but the police believe that the suspicion against him is strengthened.

– As a result of the investigation, the suspicion against the suspect is strengthened. For tactical reasons I do not want to delve further into this at the moment, says Police Attorney in the Southwest Police District, Fredrik Martin Soma.

Forensics still work on the scene, and this work will continue on Thursday. The police have questioned a number of witnesses and the husband of the alleged murder victim is still being interrogated.

Further investigations

The police will continue to question people we think may be relevant to the case, and there are also a number of technical and tactical investigations going on, Soma continues.

The deceased has been autopsied and the police are awaiting the preliminary report to be completed on Thursday. The accused man will be presented for detention before the Stavanger District Court on Thursday morning.

The fire department moved out after reports of smoke coming from the basement of the habitation in Fjellveien shortly after 10 pm on Monday.

When the firemen arrived, the house was ablaze, but the fire was quickly extinguished. The spouse of the deceased woman was still present at the site when the police patrol arrived.

The couple is originally from Sudan. The accused man, who is in his twenties, has lived in Norway for a number of years, while his wife was brought to Norway only recently.
