Sweden is removing its test requirement for travelers from next Friday. Travelers from the EU/EEA and the Nordic countries will instead be able to present a corona certificate at the border.

Up to and including January 20, all travelers to Sweden must provide a negative corona test performed within 48 hours before arrival, regardless of their vaccination status.

After January 20, the rules are changing, according to the Swedish government reports. From January 21, those who want to travel to Sweden from EU/EEA countries or the Nordic countries will have to show EU’s digital corona passports or equivalents to border officers. The requirement applies to foreign nationals over the age of 18, with certain exceptions.

Those without a corona passport or certificate must be able to provide a negative corona test taken within 72 hours before arrival or prove that they have recovered from corona in the last six months.

Travelers from outside the EU/EEA must first and foremost be covered by one of the exceptions from Sweden’s entry ban, and in addition, they need to provide a negative corona test taken within 72 hours before arrival.

In December, Sweden introduced its controversial requirement for corona tests for all travelers arriving in the country, which led to several hundred people being expelled at the border. The government is now changing the rules as it no longer sees the test requirement as a proportionate measure.
