More and more people are being diagnosed with syphilis in Sweden. Especially in Stockholm, the number of cases has increased sharply in the last three years.

At the reception for sexually transmitted diseases at Södersjukhuset in Stockholm, more than 300 syphilis cases are expected this year alone, QX writes.

In two decades, the number has increased by 500%, according to the website.

Men who have sex with men are particularly prone to syphilis infection, NTB writes.

Chief physician Finn Filén told QX that people do not use condoms to the same extent as before. Since the disease usually does not cause symptoms in the beginning, many people pass it on without knowing it.
