A 31-year-old woman was sentenced on Monday to three years in prison for bringing her child with her to the extremist group ISIS in Syria.

Under the guise of going on holiday in Turkey, the woman is said to have taken her two-year-old child to an ISIS-controlled part of Syria in 2014.

The boy’s father, who today has sole care for the child, was not aware of the mother’s actual plans.

The woman was sentenced on Monday to three years in prison for taking the child to Syria against the father’s will.

The district court in Lund completely rejected the woman’s explanation that she was held captive by the group against her will, SVT writes.

The woman is suspected of war crimes in a separate investigation where no charges have been brought forward at the time of writing.
