The Left Party (Vänsterpartiet) in Sweden wants a DNA sample to be taken from suspected sex buyers so that they can be registered in a separate register.

The party also proposes that the minimum penalty for buying sex be increased – from a fine to imprisonment, according to Swedish Radio.

The Left Party believes that there is a connection between buying sex and more serious crimes.

“In this way, for example, rape cases, which are often dropped by the police due to lack of evidence, can be reopened,” Linda Westerlund Snecker said.

Both the Christian Democrats and the Green Party support the proposal, according to Swedish Radio.
