The Swiss pharmaceutical giant Novartis has entered into an agreement with Pfizer and BioNTech to assist them in the production of the corona vaccines.

According to an agreement signed by the parties, Novartis will make its plant capacity in Stein, Switzerland, available for the cooperation.

According to the agreement, Novartis will receive the active mRNA ingredient from BioNTech, fill the vials under sterile conditions, and send the vials back to BioNTech for global distribution, Novartis stated on Friday.

Before the turn of the year, BioNTech took over a factory from Novartis in Marburg in the German state of Hesse.

Production will start there in February. The Marburg plant is scheduled to produce 250 million doses in the first half of the year.

The first information from Novartis about the new agreement does not indicate any figures on how much vaccines will be produced in Switzerland.
