According to a new bill, the Swiss could soon get rewards for encouraging friends, relatives, and colleagues to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Those who persuade others to get vaccinated could get coupons worth 50 francs (NOK 400) for restaurants or cinemas, Minister of Health Alain Berset said.

Those who receive the vaccine passport will be able to register the person who persuaded them.

The proposal has been sent out for consultation in Switzerland’s cantons, and a final decision will be made in mid-October.

Only 58.5% of Switzerland’s population has so far been fully vaccinated – far too low for the authorities to repeal current measures against the virus, such as the mandatory use of face masks on public transport.
