The Syrian man charged in May with terrorist financing of IS in Syria has been released. The man is still charged but claims he is innocent against the criminal charges.

The man has been in custody for four weeks, but PST did not ask for extended detention, reports NRK.

In May, the Syrian was charged with terrorist financing after PST seized NOK 390,000 in a mattress.

The man is a Syrian citizen and lives in Østfold. Police believe the man has been contributing to the financing of IS in Syria.

– “He is happy and relieved,” says his defense attorney, Bendik Falch-Koslung to NRK.

The man is still charged in the case but claims he is innocent and refuses criminal charges. During interrogation, defendants have explained that he has been sending money to his friends and family in Syria.
