Teacher Clemens Saers will receive NOK 350,000 in compensation and an apology from the City of Oslo after he was subjected to violence in the classroom in 2014.

The Liberal Party (V) tipped the majority when the party announced that it was changing its view on the matter. On Wednesday, the City Council decided to give the teacher compensation, the newspaper Aftenposten reports.

He will also receive an apology from the City Council, eight years after he was attacked by a student in the classroom. All parties except the City Council parties voted to give him the compensation and an apology.

A student who was 18 years old at the time strangled Saers while he was teaching at Oslo Handelsgym in 2014. The student was sentenced to six months in prison by Oslo District Court.
