A 25-year-old man from Skien has been sentenced to twelve years in prison for being a member of the extremist group ISIS and for complicity in attempted terrorism.

The 25-year-old man was charged with three counts of attempting to carry out terrorist attacks abroad via chat groups he was administrating.

In one case, where the man had online contact with a British woman, the court believed he was complicit in her attempt to commit a terrorist act.

But the Borgarting Court of Appeal concluded that he could not be convicted of attempted complicity in terrorism for the statements he made online in connection with the unrest in Denmark in the spring of 2019. The statements, however, are covered by the ban on inciting terrorism, according to the court.

The man has also been convicted of participating in the terrorist group ISIS, as well as having shared bomb recipes and ISIS propaganda.

The sentence of twelve years’ imprisonment is similar to the one the man received in Oslo District Court.
