Telemark District Court has decided that Breivik will not be released on parole. Anders Behring Breivik’s lawyer Øystein Storrvik told TV 2 that his client is appealing the verdict.

The channel reports that Storrvik did not want to comment on how his client reacted to the verdict.

However, he said that they are now working on a lawsuit against the state as they believe that the conditions of imprisonment are contrary to human rights.

Conditions of imprisonment

During the court case two weeks ago, Storrvik stated that the conditions of imprisonment make it difficult for the court to decide whether Breivik has proved worthy of the confidence required to receive parole.

He warned that the conditions of imprisonment could make Breivik more dangerous so that it might never be possible to release him.

“If a person is treated so badly that he becomes more and more dangerous during his imprisonment, he will never be released. Then the authorities will strengthen their argument that he must be kept in custody. It is a paradox in all custody cases,” he said.

In the trial, psychiatrist Randi Rosenqvist stated that Breivik had major and possibly unsolvable problems and that there was a danger that he could commit violence again.
