The Crown Prince and the Prime Minister attending Holocaust remembrance in the New Year

Crown Prince Haakon and Prime Minister Erna Solberg (Høyre/Conservative Party) will represent Norway at memorial events in Israel and Poland in 2020, 75 years after the liberation of Auschwitz.

Crown Prince Haakon will represent Norway during a remembrance at the World Holocaust Remembrance Center, Yad Vashem in Jerusalem on January 23rd.

On January 27th, which is International Holocaust Day, the Crown Prince and the Prime Minister will be present during the 75-year memorial event in Auschwitz, Poland.

A total of 6 million European Jews and others were killed in concentration camps. On January 27th 1945, the prisoners in Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camps were liberated by Soviet soldiers.

In 2005, the UN General Assembly resolved that the day should be an International Day of Holocaust Remembrance.
