A digital, global idea initiative opened on Thursday with a greeting from Crown Prince Haakon. The goal is to develop solutions for the ongoing corona crisis.

Programmers and developers from around the world are invited to participate in the online event The Global Hack, a so-called “hackathon”. Norway is a co-organizer.

Participants will come up with ideas and solutions within twelve different fields. These include arts and culture, education, research and crisis response.

“We need all of you, maybe now more than ever. We need your entrepreneurial spirit, your ability to see potential and to do things in new ways,” said Crown Prince Haakon in his video greeting.

He is particularly pleased that the themes chosen are linked to the UN’s sustainability goals.

“You see the big picture. It’s not just about this crisis, but moving the world forward,” he said.
