Denmark wants to phase out all use of natural gas by 2030. At the same time, the government announced a quadrupling of investments in wind power and solar cells.

“Now, we increase our ambitions with more wind (energy projects) on land, more solar cells, and more offshore wind… We will develop as much renewable energy as possible in the smartest way,” Mette Frederiksen said about the government’s proposal.

“When we become greener, we also weaken Putin,” she said in a comment, pointing out that the change will make Denmark less dependent on gas imports from Russia.

Frederiksen says the plan is to give the household financial support to make the transition easier.
