The EU has not extended the contract for coronavirus vaccines from the manufacturer AstraZeneca, EU officials stated during the weekend.

“We have not extended the contract beyond the month of June,” EU Commissioner Thierry Breton said, referring to the AstraZeneca contract.

The AstraZeneca vaccine has been linked to rare but severe cases of blood clots. However, Breton said the vaccine is a good vaccine.

“We’ll see. We will see what happens,” he added.

The EU reached an agreement with Pfizer on Saturday, securing a further 1.8 billion doses by 2023.
