The government appoints a Global Health Ambassador for Norway

John-Arne Røttingen will be Norway’s global health ambassador, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Among other things, Røttingen will follow up on Norway’s global health efforts and Norwegian participation in the international work against the COVID-19 pandemic.

He has been CEO of the Research Council and, on behalf of Norway, will lead an international study with the support of the WHO that tests drugs against COVID-19.

“John-Arne Røttingen is quite learned and has a strong presence internationally. Norway has, for many years, been among the leaders in global health efforts, and it is important for the government to continue and strengthen our efforts in this field”, says Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide (H).

Søreide further adds that the corona pandemic has emphasized on the importance of the work for global health and vaccine development.

“By hiring John-Arne Røttingen as a special adviser for health, we strengthen this effort and position”, says the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
