The Hospital of Southern Norway is canceling around 20% of planned treatments to deal with the increasing number of corona patients.

“We expect a strong increase in the number of infected people in the population, and thus, more patients with COVID-19. I have therefore decided that the hospital must cancel approximately 20% of the planned treatments so that our employees can now spend time preparing to handle the increased number (of corona patients),” Nina Mevold stated in a press release.

The hospital made the decision based on the National Institute of Public Health’s (FHI) scenarios related to the omicron variant combined with increased sickness absence or quarantine among its own employees.

Work is now being done to clarify which treatments are affected.

Immediate assistance, children, cancer treatment, and vital treatment, among others, will be shielded from the cuts, Mevold emphasized.

The patients who are affected will be notified by text message. Those who are not informed by the hospital that their treatment has been postponed must attend their appointments at the agreed time.
