On Monday, Akershus University Hospital (Ahus) had almost twice as many intensive care patients as intensive care units. The section leader says the hospital is under heavy pressure.

Ahus has ten intensive care units but had 18 intensive care patients on Monday, according to the newspaper VG.

“There is a lot of pressure on the hospital now,” section leader Sylvi Vullum told the newspaper.

Vullum noted that the number of patients admitted to the intensive care unit can change in a short time. On Tuesday, there were eleven corona patients in the intensive care unit, of which five were on respirators.

The hospital has not established more permanent intensive care units. Still, it is now staffing up to address the current demand for intensive care.
