Last Friday, customs officers at the Swedish border at Svinesund seized a total of 1,716 liters of vodka. This is the largest spirits seizure in Norway so far this year.

The customs officers stopped a Lithuanian registered van which was on its way across the border from Sweden on the evening of The 31st of May, writes Dagsavisen.

The alcohol was packaged in three-liter cartons, and the seizure had a total value of over NOK 665,000. The police arrested a 30-year-old man from Lithuania who drove the van, which was stopped at the customs station at the old Svinesund bridge.

“We do just about as many seizures there as by the new bridge. I do not ignore the fact that smugglers speculate that it is easier to get through there,” says customs manager Wenche Fredriksen.
