The marriage certificate is now, digital

As of the first of March, newlyweds will not receive a marriage certificate by post, instead will receive a confirmation of marriage digitally from the Population Register.

Every year, the National Register sends out approx. 18,000 signed and stamped marriage certificates on paper as letter mail. This will end on March 1, 2020 when newlyweds will now receive confirmation of marriage from the National Register on the online portal; Altinn.

If, as a newlywed, you still want to get the classic marriage certificate on paper, it will still be possible to order a certificate on the Tax Agency’s website.

If you have not created an user account on Altinn, you will get the certificate in regular mail.
