The Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not have an overview of how many Norwegians are still in Afghanistan. It is now asking Norwegians in Afghanistan to register at a website.

“The situation in Afghanistan is confusing and is developing rapidly. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in contact with multiple Norwegian citizens who are in a difficult situation,” communications adviser Ragnhild H. Simenstad said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is now asking Norwegians in the country to report their location through the website reiseregistrering.no.

No exact overview

“Registering in reiseegistrering.no is voluntary, and we, therefore, do not have exact figures on how many Norwegians stay in individual countries,” Simenstad said.

As the embassy in Kabul is closed, the authorities do not have the opportunity to provide consular assistance. Everyone who contacts the embassy will be referred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Oslo.

Denmark has sent a group of diplomats to Kabul to operate at the international airport. It is not yet known whether Norway will do something similar.
