The almost two-year-old boy who fell into a river in Geiranger on Tuesday afternoon, was found dead shortly after 9.30 pm, according to the police

It was reported at around 4 pm on Tuesday that the boy had fallen into a side river in Geiranger. Aid crews and volunteers have been searching for the boy since then. The mother also ended up in the water, but recovered unharmed. According to the police, the boy must have fallen from a bridge, and the mother jumped after it.

According to TV 2, the boy fell in a small side river to the Geiranger River. The main rescue center in southern Norway informs NTB that the main search has been in Maråkelva.

The current is strong, and an excavator was brought in early to steer the current away so that it could be searched in the pools down the river.

The boy was found a little past where the tributary meets the Geiranger River, near Hotel Union.

According to Nettavisen, the family are residents of Eastern Norway. The family is being taken care of by health personnel and crisis teams in the municipality.
