The new ID cards will arrive in November

The national ID card is now scheduled to be launched in November, unless the Coronavirus pandemic gets in the way.

This is what assistant police director Håkon Skulstad tells TV 2.

New passports and national ID cards were originally supposed to be ready in December 2016, but have been postponed several times. Norway is currently one of three countries within the EU / EEA that have not introduced a national ID card, together with Iceland and Denmark.

– “We can not rule out that the Coronavirus pandemic that affects all of society, can also affect the launch time for the national ID card. In that case, we will return to this,” says Skulstad.
