A bill to ban conversion therapy will soon be sent for consultation. The proposal is based on a study that was started last year.

Prime Minister Erna Solberg (H) announced the news at a press conference on Thursday, where the government presented its new action plan in the LGBTIQ field.

At the conference, Minister of Culture and Gender Equality Abid Raja (V) said that conversion therapy deprives people of freedom and is destructive to human dignity.

He added that the government wanted the work on the bill to be done thoroughly.

“When we are going to ban something we do not like, the ban must stand in relation to the constitution and international conventions,” Raja said.

The bill will probably be sent out for consultation during the summer.
