The Norwegian Medicines Agency has so far received 587 reports of suspected side effects from corona vaccines but believes that none of them provide a basis for changing the recommendations.
Out of the received reports, 282 reports have been processed. Out of the processed ones, 100 have been classified as serious, and 182 have been classified as not serious, the Norwegian Medicines Agency stated on Thursday.
Allergic reactions
In Norway, four serious allergic reactions have been reported after vaccination with Comirnaty, the vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech, the Norwegian Medicines Agency stated.
Thus far, experiences may indicate that severe allergic reactions occur more frequently with the use of mRNA vaccines than with other vaccines.
Healthcare professionals should be aware of such reactions and that these can also occur in the elderly, although it is not common, chief medical officer Sigurd Hortemo noted.
He emphasizes that preparedness for anaphylaxis – allergic shock – is important, and health personnel are encouraged to follow the vaccination guidelines regarding the observation time.
56 vaccinated people have died
So far, 56 reports of deaths in nursing home residents who have been vaccinated have been processed.
Normally, an average of 45 people dies every day in Norwegian nursing homes or similar institutions.
Therefore, it is expected that there will be deaths in the time context of vaccination, without there having to be a causal connection with the vaccine, the Norwegian Medicines Agency added.
Adverse reaction reports after vaccination are monitored and followed up by the Norwegian Medicines Agency in collaboration with the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (FHI) and regional medicine information centers.
