After handling more than 40 million postal items in December, the Norwegian Post reports that all terminals have been emptied of Christmas mail. All packages have been sent to recipients across the country.

Every week in December, the Norwegian Post handled around 2 million packages, a new record. In total, Østlandsterminalen handled 40 million shipments before Christmas. On Christmas Eve, CEO Tone Wille announced that all Christmas mail had been sent out and that the terminals were empty.

“This year, we have handled extraordinarily large quantities of Christmas mail. The package volume rose to record highs already the day after the authorities introduced new corona restrictions and has remained very high until Christmas Eve,” Wille said, thanking all the employees who have been working hard.

The Norwegian Post brought in 1,000 additional employees to handle the increased volume of packages. On Christmas Eve, 260,000 packages were still waiting to be picked up at collection points around the country.

“I want to send a big and well-deserved thank you to all our employees and those who work at the Post in stores and who can now take a well-deserved Christmas holiday,” Wille added.
