The Norwegian state has to pay compensation of NOK 2.6 million to a man who suffered large physical and financial losses following a hip operation.

The verdict was passed in the Borgarting Court of Appeal.

The injured party will receive full compensation for their financial loss and compensation for the permanent medical injuries that have followed the operation. The compensation amounts to NOK 300,000, while the compensation for future financial losses is NOK 2.3 million.

The man had a hip prosthesis inserted on May 10, 2010, but experienced numerous problems after the operation, including reduced function in the hip and partially damaged muscles. The man has had to go through a total of three operations.

The state is also sentenced to pay legal costs of about NOK 400,000.
