The official celebration of Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s 18th birthday has been postponed due to the corona situation, the Norwegian government announced on Thursday.

The government’s planned gift to the princess was a gala dinner at Oslo’s new library Deichman Bjørvika on Thursday, January 20. People from all over the country were supposed to participate, and cultural activities of various kinds were planned.

As Princess Ingrid Alexandra is heir to the throne after her father, Crown Prince Haakon, her coming of age day is an important date for Norwegian history, the government noted in a press release.

“I had looked forward to celebrating Princess Ingrid Alexandra on the day she comes of age, but the infection situation, unfortunately, does not allow it now. I still hope she will still have a nice celebration with her loved ones,” Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said in a press release.

Ingrid Alexandra turns 18 on January 21.
