The Socialist Left Party (SV) wants Norway to take in 5,000 quota refugees next year, as well as 1,000 asylum seekers from Greece.

In the current government parties’ budget proposal, the plan is for Norway to receive 3,000 quota refugees next year.

Pulling Norwegian forces out of foreign countries

The SV also wants to withdraw Norwegian forces from Iraq, Lithuania, Jordan, and frigate missions in the Middle East. The move would save close to half a billion kroner.

In its alternative budget proposal, the SV proposes to withdraw Norwegian forces from various foreign missions. In total, it could provide a cut of NOK 455 million, according to the SV’s calculations.

Profit-free welfare

The SV also wants a committee to look at zero-profit models in child welfare, kindergartens, and labor market measures.

“The committee should, in collaboration between the government and the SV, present proposals for zero-profit solutions,” the SV’s fiscal policy spokeswoman Kari Elisabeth Kaski said when she presented the party’s alternative budget on Monday.

“With models on the table, it will be possible to phase out commercial actors in welfare,” she said.
