The new President of the Norwegian parliament (Storting), Eva Kristin Hansen (AP), is very happy with the record-high proportion of women in the parliament.

The President of the Storting commented on the new MPs during the formal opening of the 166th Storting on Monday.

“The proportion of women this year is higher than ever, now even a little closer to 50%.

“It was about time, in the year we mark 100 years since Karen Platou was the first woman to be elected to a permanent seat in the Storting,” Hansen noted.
