On Wednesday and Thursday, US Secretary of the Navy Richard V. Spencer was on a Norwegian visit. During the visit, he had talks with Prime Minister Erna Solberg (Høyre/Conservative Party).
Spencer also met with Defense Minister Frank Bakke-Jensen (Høyre).
He said in a statement from the US Embassy that the United States is grateful for the close cooperation with Norway on security and defense issues, both in the Arctic and in the North Atlantic.
“We value Norway’s crucial role in the NATO alliance, especially in the northern regions, and I appreciate all contact I can have with my Norwegian friends,” he says.
For nearly a month, US forces have been holding exercises with other NATO countries and allies in Europe.
Last week, US bombers trained with Norwegian fighter jets over northern Norway. They also trained together on October 30th in the airspace west of Troms.
