The US military has released the names of the four soldiers who died in the plane crash during the exercise Cold Response in Nordland.

“The pilots and crew were determined to complete their mission and work for a cause that is bigger than themselves.

“We will continue to execute the mission while keeping these Marines and their service on the forefront of our minds,” General Michael Cederholm wrote in a letter to the United States Navy and to the families of the dead.

In the letter, which was also published on Twitter, he wrote that the dead are:

* Captain Matthew J. Tomkiewicz of Indiana

* Captain Ross A. Reynolds of Massachusetts

* Sergeant James W. Speedy of Ohio

* Corporal Jacob M. Moore of Kentucky

The four died when their plane, a Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey, crashed near Beiarn in Nordland on Friday night. The dead were retrieved on Sunday.

The cause of the accident is not yet known. On Sunday, the AIBN began the initial investigation.
