More people have received health care in somatic hospitals, and the waiting time has decreased from 2020 to 2021. When it comes to mental health care, the waiting time increased, but more people received help, according to figures that have been reported from the specialist health service to the Norwegian Directorate of Health.

Just over 2 million patients were treated at somatic hospitals in 2021, an increase of around 5% from 2020.

Almost 38% of the population had contact with somatic specialist health services in 2021, which is about the same level as the year before.

In mental health care, almost 163,000 adults received health care, up 6% from the previous year.

When it comes to mental health care for children and adolescents, nearly 65,000 patients were treated – an increase of 14% from 2020.
