The Web Church is doubling the number of priests and deacons to serve people during the Corona crisis.
– We have expanded the offer considerably and feel that it meets a need when people have to talk to someone, says Kjersti Østland Midttun, a Web Priest and general manager of the Church for the Day.
Midttun says that the church in the first two weeks of the crisis had 300 conversations with people, and initially 80 percent of these were directly related to the Corona situation.
– Many people are scared and feel that they have to deal with a day-to-day life that can often already be challenging, she says.
Usually, 16 priests and deacons are associated with the service, but this has now been increased to 31. The opening hours have been extended to 16 hours daily.
The Norwegian Seamen Church established Nettkirken in 1999. The Norwegian church today collaborates with the Seamen Church for a common church presence on the Internet.
