The Nobel Peace Center in Oslo on Friday showcased the new placard in its garden where all Peace Prize winners are represented: Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

The permanent exhibition Nobel Garden is called the heart of the Peace Center. There, all the Peace Prize winners are presented on their own screens, surrounded by a thousand small lights. Designer David Small is behind the concept together with architect David Adjaye.

“We wanted to create something timeless. Here you meet all the peace prize winners from more than a hundred years back in time to today, all in the same room, and they even talk together,” Small explains.

The Peace Prize for Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed can have a contagious effect and help curb the conflicts in the Horn of Africa, the Nobel Committee hopes.

During his first year as prime minister, Ahmed has made peace with neighboring Eritrea and accelerated democratization in Ethiopia. This, as well as his willingness to invest in women, are among the reasons why the Committee awarded him this year’s Peace Prize.
