The Dutch Data Inspectorate has issued a fine of almost NOK 7.8 million to Tiktok for breaching children-related privacy rules.

“By not offering its privacy statement in Dutch, Tiktok was unable to provide a sufficient explanation of how the app collects, processes, and uses personal data,” the Data Inspectorate noted in a statement on Thursday.

The platform has been fined EUR 750,000 for violating the privacy obligation, according to which people must always be informed about what is being done with their personal data.

Tiktok, which has 3.5 million users in the Netherlands, has voiced its protest over the fine. The company says that the privacy policy and a shorter summary for younger users have been available in Dutch since July 2020.
