On Wednesday, Norway will decide whether to extend its ban on direct flights from the United Kingdom. “We are following the situation closely,” State Secretary Maria Jahrmann Bjerke noted.

On Monday, Norway introduced a halt to all direct flights from the United Kingdom

The decision was made after all neighboring countries introduced similar measures to mitigate the new coronavirus variant that has spread in the UK.

“On Monday, December 21, Norway stopped all direct flights from the UK with immediate effect, to ensure that the virus variant detected there spreads to Norway as little as possible,” State Secretary Maria Jahrmann Bjerke (H) in the Ministry of Health and Care Services told NTB on Tuesday night.

New assessment

“We will make a new assessment of the ban tomorrow, December 23. We follow the situation closely and listen to advice from our professional authorities,” she continued.

Earlier in the day, Svein Lie, director of the Norwegian Directorate of Health, stated that they would consider the ban during the day.

“The Norwegian Directorate of Health provides professional advice on this, while the decision is made by the government,” Lie told NTB.
