On Thursday morning, it snowed down onto Japan’s capital. 54 long years have passed since the last time Tokyo’s residents woke up to snow in the month of November.

Unusually cold air masses have brought wet snow to Tokyo. Temperatures being above 0 mean that the snow is not settling, but meteorologists warned that there may remain a layer of up to two centimeters.

The last time it snowed in central Tokyo in November was in 1962, when Little Eva topped Norway’s hit parade with ‘The Loco-Motion’.

In 2016, the snow arrived 40 days earlier than average, reported Japan Today.
